The Front Porch Over Run by Technology

The Front Porch was a interesting piece of writing about a observation I'm betting not to many people have made. This article was more than just a bunch of complaining on how there are no more front porches. It is very true that with the technology today, garages are alot more use full then a front porch. Garages allow people to store junk they may or may not need. My opinion is that this is a new generation and that those front porches he misses so much are a part of his past. Not everything is going to stay the same when people are looking to expand from old ideas. Sure it's nice to have a place to stand and talk about the good times, but today people go out to restaurants and talk while watching TV inside. People may not be taking in the fresh air on their porches, but they are getting plenty of it on the go. In this generation people are constantly doing things and don't have time to have a porch and talk, that is what they use cellphones for when they are at little Billy's football practice. So, I'm sorry a part of his past is gone, but we all have them and it just so happens that in this day and age people are more about that new fresh idea.

High school to college writng

The writing expectations from my high school completely differs from those of the CEL views. It is very true that waiting tell the last minute to write your paper is a bad idea. In high school as long as it seemed like you knew what you were talking about the worst grade was going to be a high C or maybe even a B. The senior level English class that I was in had a teacher who formerly taught at Michigan State. So, she did teach us in some detail about using rhetoric, persuading towards the readers, and writing well developed thesis for our papers. Really she showed everyone in the class what to expect when it came to college level writing papers. It seems that her views and the views of the CEL writer are very much in common. But, in all other classes I have taken in high school not one came even close to seeing eye to eye with the CEL. In those other classes, the teachers had a topic for us to write a paper on and if it was five paragraphs (introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion) with a steady thesis and you were going to get either a B or a A. Now good grammar and little errors were necessary also. It seems in college it is writing a little more outside of the box. It wasn't really a common theme to have my teachers bring the material we were working on and spreading it to everyday life. The only time I did bring the subject in everyday life was in the senior English class. For example we wrote about how it would feel to be like the person in a book called Night, about a person who survived the concentration camps. In college writing is more about gathering ideas, then organizing them into a paper while in the mean time adapting it into something that will have all readers entertained. Also in college you have to prove to your professor that you have done more than just what was expected, but also have a better understanding of the subject all around. High school wasn't all bad, but every subject was given to you and by next week after the paper was due or the test was taken you could forget about the subject all together. In the college courses it seems the subject will stick to you a lot longer because you had to think more about what you a re writing about. Over all, college will help everyone once it comes to going into the job field because all of those who went threw college will have a better head on their shoulders when it comes to writing in the future for jobs. Furthermore, college is about expressing your words more and taking a higher position of what is being written so that your papers seem more intelligent. I'm just glad my senior English teacher got me going on the right foot towards writing college papers.
